This summer, Nightingale Opera Theatre will mount a production of Jake Heggie's If I Were You. This new opera was commissioned and debuted in summer 2019 by the Merola Program through San Fransisco Opera. Mr. Heggie will be joining us during our second week for masterclasses and coachings. The program will also include performances of Heggie's art songs and portions from his other operas, as well as a rotation of masterclasses, lectures, and career classes in addition to private lessons, music coachings, acting coachings, and staging rehearsals. Selected participants will have the opportunity to work side by side with our composers' residency to bring additional new music to life. Our program will occur June 22-July 11th in Hudson, Ohio!
Over the last 14 years, the Rochester International Vocal Competition has grown from a small regional contest to a world-renowned event helping to launch careers. Deadline Approaching: Apply Today for the 2020 Jensen Foundation Vocal Competition The Jensen Foundation supports America’s most promising young opera professionals with its annual Vocal Competition. Singers compete for their share of $40,000 in awards, including a $15,000 First Place award. The 2020 competition takes place at the Baruch Performing Arts Center in New York City May 11-16. The singing environment is well-organized and supportive, with professional accompanists and preliminary judges. Twelve finalists are chosen to perform before the Finals Judges who are distinguished in the world of opera. After the competition, finalists may request feedback from the judges. The Handel Aria Competition was created to promote the performance of Handel’s vast vocal repertoire. The final round will take place on Friday June 5, 2020 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Mead Witter School of Music, accompanied by an ensemble of period instruments. Contestants must be 18-35 years old as of the day of the finals. Past finalists are eligible to audition, with the exception of first prize winners. Judges: John Holiday, countertenor with Metropolitan Opera, LA Opera; David Ronis, Director of Opera at UW-Madison Mead-Witter School of Music; Alessandra Visconti, Italian coach at Lyric Opera of Chicago, Northwestern University. Extended deadline: March 25: iSING! Festival - A Life-Changing Experience. The iSING! Festival is the first-ever festival dedicated to the vocal arts in China. In its 10th season iSING! is a 4-week full-scholarship training program offers coachings in both Western and Chinese repertoire with coaches from major opera houses around the world, Mandarin lessons and immersion in an “East Meets West” cultural exchange. The 2020 Program presents a history-making concert of original compositions set to Tang Dynasty poem - the first time such a concert is commissioned and produced. International announcement of selection for Opera singers – Young Artists Program 2020-21. Purpose: start and consolidation of the career of the opera singer. Period: From November 2020 to June 2021 (the work experience activities may be extended up to October 2021). YAP attendance fee: None. The attendance of the Young Artists Program is free. Scholarships: Euro 1,000 gross per month for each candidate admitted. Artistic Activity: The Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and partner institutions may offer contracts for participations in operas concerts of their musical seasons.
