Deadline to apply for Opera North's 2024 Resident Artist Program approaching! The application deadlines vary by audition location: October 27 (Boston auditions), October 31 (Dallas and Chicago auditions), November 7 (Virtual auditions); November 10 (New York City auditions). Our season this year offers three imaginative productions with orchestra, including Offenbach's Orphée aux enfers (Orpheus in the Underworld), Verdi's Rigoletto and Sondheim's Into the Woods at our outdoor home, the stunning Blow-Me-Down Farm on the banks of the Connecticut River. These productions feature our Resident Artists in all roles whenever possible. We look forward to hearing you in an audition for the coming season!
There’s still time to enter! Deadline Nov. 10: Now in its 10th year, participants and winners of the John Alexander National Vocal Competition have gone to enjoy successful careers in opera and musical theatre. It’s a chance to sing for some of the leading casting and stage directors, win cash prizes, and build relationships that will last a lifetime. Eight finalists will be chosen from virtual auditions, and invited to perform at the “Vibrations” National Winners Concert on February 19, 2024 in Jackson, MS. Final prizes and placements will be announced at the concert. Monetary prizes for First Place are $1,200, Second Place $900. Housing and travel to and from Jackson covered by Opera Mississippi. Winners are also considered for roles in upcoming Opera Mississippi productions.
For 44 seasons, The Ohio Light Opera has dedicated itself to the exploration and production of the best of traditional operetta and musical theater. This includes the complete Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire, as well as the recognized treasures from the Viennese, French, Hungarian, German, and American repertoire. The 36 performing artists who make up the vocal ensemble are chosen for their abilities to perform and work at the highest level in all disciplines demanded by the company’s specialized repertoire. The program provides instruction in Creative Process (focused on developing imagination and improvisation skills), Acting, Movement, Alexander Technique, Clown, Lyric Diction, Text and Vocal Interpretation taught by distinguished faculty who are experts in their field. Utah Opera's Resident Artist Program for singers and pianists provides an integral step between graduate studies and a career. Participants spend nine months developing professional skills through mainstage performances with Utah Opera and Utah Symphony, individualized training, workshops, and masterclass sessions. The Fellowship of the Song aims to promote and innovate the song genre by empowering the next generation of twenty-first century artists who will carry the mantle of song in the United States and throughout the world. The International Meistersinger Akademie (IMA) offers emerging artists an exceptional environment of excellence in the study of opera and concert repertoire. Our prestigious staff and guest professors bring their expertise to the vocal and interpretive development of the young professional. New York Dramatic Voices is excited to announce our 2024 Wagner Winter Intensive. Each artist will work with stage director, Laura Alley (SFO, NYCO), music director, Matthew Lobaugh (WNO, LA Opera), and masterclass technician, Adrienne Boris (UIA); culminating in a staged public performance in the heart of Manhattan. This Winter's repertoire will be Das Rheingold, Scene 1, Parsifal, Act II, Tristan und Isolde, Act II, Scene 2. Each artist receives professional video of their performance. The Wilhelmsen Opera Studio for Young Singers (WOYS). The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet, Talent Norway and Shipowner Tom Wilhelmsen’s Foundation are launching a new opera studio for young singers who have recently completed their opera education and are on the threshold of a professional career. WOYS is founded and artistically managed by Opera Director Randi Stene. From 2024, the studio will play a central role in the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet. Every second year WOYS will recruit 4–6 singers who will be full-time salaried employees with the Norwegian National Opera running for two seasons. Age limit of singers entering the studio is 32 years.
