The Cooper-Bing Competition is an internationally recognized vocal competition that has celebrated and supported emerging young artists in opera. The Academy of Vocal Arts accepts singers on a full-tuition scholarship basis for our four-year Artists Diploma. The Schmidt Vocal Institute (SVI) nurtures and mentors the development of talented high school singers who wish to pursue studies in music performance or education. The curriculum focuses on training singers to have a healthy technique, improved musicianship, and outstanding performance skills.   2024 Participants of SVI will receive: Master Classes or private coachings with distinguished guest faculty mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Bishop (Juilliard), soprano Angela Brown, and coach/pianist Warren Jones. Casting has begun for Opera Lucca's production of Gianni Schicchi! Apply now to study Italian opera and language in Puccini's hometown. Opera Lucca is a summer festival for singers, pianists, and composers. It will be held at the Lucca Italian School in the summer of 2024, June 8th - July 7th. For the centennial of Puccini's death, this season we are casting roles in Gianni Schicchi as well as in scenes from Suor Angelica, Le nozze di Figaro, Così fan tutte, La bohème, and other bel canto, baroque, and dramatic repertoire. We specialize in teaching Italian opera and art song through a focus on the poetic language. A singing competition unlike any other, in which acting counts as much as vocal talent. The Lotte Lenya Competition welcomes talented singer/actors to show they can "do it all" by presenting four contrasting theatrical songs and arias. More than $120,000 will be distributed in prizes throughout the 2024 Competition, including the top prize of $25,000. Additionally, individual prizes will be awarded after each of the preliminary ($750), semifinal ($1250), and final rounds (between $3,000 and $25,000). Applications closing soon! Applications are closing soon for the Cascais Opera International Vocal Competition, for opera singers aged 18 to 32. In addition to international performance opportunities, participants stand to win from a substantial €30.000 prize pool. Following the initial online phase with the submission of two arias, selected candidates will perform live in Cascais, Portugal, in April 2024. They will gain access to masterclasses, jury feedback and partial travel and stay reimbursement for finalists. The Burbank Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hennings-Fischer Foundation are pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 23rd annual Young Artist Competition.  This prestigious competition is open to all instrumentalists (except piano) and all vocalists age 30 or under as of February 24, 2024.  Grand prize winners will appear with the Burbank Philharmonic in a regular season concert and receive a cash prize of $1,000 at the time of performance.  Recent past winners and finalists include sopranos Angela Meade and Julie Adams and violinists Nigel Armstrong and Aubree Oliverson.
