The Jensen Foundation supports America’s most promising young opera professionals with its annual Vocal Competition. Singers compete for their share of $40,000 in awards, including a $15,000 First Place award. The 2024 competition takes place at the Baruch Performing Arts Center in New York City May 20-25. The singing environment is well-organized and supportive, with professional accompanists and preliminary judges. Twelve finalists are chosen to perform before the Finals Judges who are distinguished in the world of opera. After the competition, finalists may request feedback from the judges. The 11th annual James Toland Vocal Arts Competition, a weekend of master classes and competition finals, will be held on June 22-23, 2024. We welcome exceptional singers in genres from opera, oratorio and art songs, to jazz, musical theater and cabaret standards. There are no specific age, education or residency requirements. Two levels of competition based on vocal experience are offered. Awards total over $40,000, including a top prize of $10,000, and ALL finalists (5 in each tier) receive a cash award. DEADLINE EXTENDED: FEBRUARY 25: Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems World Tour. iSING! Festival - A Life-Changing Experience. In the 2024-25 season, iSING! Festival will bring its history-making Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems (the “Project”) on an international tour including five cities in North America, Europe and China, featuring a cast of singers in all vocal categories. The Project begins on May 20, 2024, with an intensive training/rehearsal period in China, culminating in a kick-off concert in Beijing, followed shortly after by a concert in a European city to be announced at a later date, marking the official launch of the iSING! Festival Echoes of Ancient Tang Poems Tour. Subsequent concerts will be scheduled and announced throughout the 2024-25 season.

Participants and faculty perform world premieres and everyone engages in a learning atmosphere inside and outside rehearsal. Mostly Modern is a place to explore & network with faculty and participants, and create new opportunities, outside normative career-paths of traditional-orchestral/rep/teaching-training and find work that fits one’s passion, with new and exciting music-making.
