The Miami Music Festival (MMF) announces the creation of The Miami Wagner Institute–an elite tuition-free program led by Metropolitan Opera soprano Christine Goerke, and preeminent Wagner specialist Kathleen Kelly for dramatic/lyrics in transition age 24-40. The Institute aims to provide much-needed training and professional-level performance opportunities for the unique demands of the dramatic Wagnerian singer. Singers chosen to participate will receive voice lessons, coachings, master classes and performance opportunities including scenes and arias with the MMF Symphony Orchestra at the New World Center. Now open to U.S. and Canadian citizens and residents! The Ziering-Conlon Initiative at The Colburn School, James Conlon, Artistic Advisor, is hosting a national Art Song competition for U.S. and Canadian citizens and residents under the age of 31. This Initiative is inspired by LA Opera's "Recovered Voices" project. The objective of this competition is to introduce music of composers suppressed during the Nazi regime to young singers and collaborative pianists and to reward excellence in its performance. Live finals, with audience, to be held at The Colburn School on December 6, 2015. Cash prizes totaling $12,000 ($5,000 First Prize) will be awarded to all finalists. Plus, a fully underwritten residency at SongFest 2016 will be offered to the winner, courtesy of SongFest. Chautauqua Opera Company Young Artist Program Auditions NY, NY USA Type: Young Artist Program Age limit: 35 Deadline: apply by Thursday, October 1, 2015 Chautauqua's 2016 mainstage repertoire includes Verdi's "La Traviata" directed by Keturah Stickann and Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado" directed by Ned Canty. Many principal, featured and supporting roles for all voice types will be assigned to Young Artists, who will work alongside established Guest Artists in both productions. Apprentices are also featured in two concerts (opera highlights and pops) with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, while Studio Artists are featured in recitals, a scenes program, musical theater revues, and outreach events.
