Respiro Opera NYC June 17-26, 2016 is an intensive 10 day training program for young singers designed to aid in their artistic development between student and young professional. The program provides singers with the opportunity to explore breath, body alignment, text analysis and musical style. Participants in Respiro Opera’s program will work with the basic stagecraft skills required for today’s opera performer. Classes will be offered in breath for the operatic voice, hands-on Alexander Technique, Body Mapping, and yoga for singers. The International Lyric Academy is a unique opportunity for students and emerging artists; during an intensive month, they receive professional coachings, voice lessons and participate in a full range of classes, masterclasses, concerts, recitals and rehearsals culminating in four fully staged performances of “THE MAGIC FLUTE” by Mozart and “SUOR ANGELICA” and "LA BOHEME" by Puccini with the Festival’s Symphony Orchestra. JUST ONE WEEK UNTIL THE FINAL DEADLINE! The JTVA Vocal Competition welcomes exceptional singing in genres from opera, oratorio and art songs, to jazz, musical theater and cabaret standards. There are no specific age, education or residency requirements. Two levels of competition based on vocal experience are offered and ALL finalists receive a cash award. Awards total $20,000, as well as soloist performance opportunities with both the Oakland Symphony and the Masterworks Chorale in San Mateo. This intensive program is designed for singers aged 18 and older who are currently studying vocal performance at the college or graduate level; or who are considering focused studies in classical voice. The 39th annual Lyndon Woodside Oratorio-Solo Competition: Application deadline February 1, 2016 by recording. Semifinals 4/2/16, NYC, Finals 4/9/16 in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. www.solocomp.org In 1977 the Oratorio Society of New York inaugurated an annual Solo Competition designed to encourage the art of oratorio singing and to give talented young singers an opportunity to advance their careers. The Competition has become international in scope and well-known in the music world and is the only major competition to focus exclusively on oratorio singing. $21,000 in cash prizes. Age Limit 40 years. Open to all singers who have not made an oratorio debut in a major hall in NYC, ie: Carnegie Hall or Avery Fisher Hall.

Prelude, tuition free, with stipends, June 1-July 12, will present La Boheme and Die Fledermaus, fully staged with orchestra in original language at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, NYC.
