The Houston Saengerbund is a private, charitable foundation in Houston, TX whose mission is to support and encourage German music, language, and culture. Each year the foundation sponsors a vocal competition for rising professional singers on the brink of a solo career. Opera North's 2021 summer season includes Puccini's La Bohème, 'Extraordinary Women’ (a showcase of extended scenes from Baroque and modern opera), and a concert of opera and music theater selections with orchestra and circus artists, all under tents at Opera North's new outdoor art park at Blow-Me-Down Farm. Some of the musical coaching will take place over Zoom prior to the artists' arrival at Opera North. Singers accepted for the program must be available at mutually-agreed upon times between June 27-July 15 for virtual coachings ahead of the three-week residency. CANTO OPERA STUDIO ONLINE: Introducing the Canto Opera Studio Online! Apply to take part in a monthly, intensive program with top of the line faculty. Each 3-day session consists of one-on-one coachings working on interpretation, repertoire, style as well as the art of performing online. This comprehensive program provides singers the opportunity to sing for distinguished, industry professionals.
