The Houston Saengerbund is a private, charitable foundation in Houston, TX whose mission is to support and encourage German music, language, and culture.  Each year the foundation sponsors a vocal competition for rising professional singers on the brink of a solo career.  Past judges have come from the ranks of professional opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera and the Houston Grand Opera, major Conservatories, and professional classical singing artists.  Past winners have gone on to significant opportunities with major US houses. This year's prizes:  1st:  $5,000.  2nd:  $3,500.  3rd:  $2,500.  Finalist Awards:  $1,000. Opera North's 2021 summer season includes Puccini's La Bohème, 'Extraordinary Women’ (a showcase of extended scenes from Baroque and modern opera), and a concert of opera and music theater selections with orchestra and circus artists, all under tents at Opera North's new outdoor art park at Blow-Me-Down Farm. Some of the musical coaching will take place over Zoom prior to the artists' arrival at Opera North. Singers accepted for the program must be available at mutually-agreed upon times between June 27-July 15 for virtual coachings ahead of the three-week residency. Housing, travel, and stipend provided!

CANTO OPERA STUDIO ONLINE: Introducing the Canto Opera Studio Online! Apply to take part in a monthly, intensive program with top of the line faculty. Each 3-day session consists of one-on-one coachings working on interpretation, repertoire, style as well as the art of performing online. This comprehensive program provides singers the opportunity to sing for distinguished, industry professionals. At the end of each session, singers will perform one-two arias for our guest artist, receive feedback plus a Q&A. There is a separate application for each session. Don't miss the November 1st deadline to apply to the Opera Naples Resident Artists Program!  This five week professional residency occuring February 7 through March 14, 2021 will feature the four selected artists in a Festival Under the Stars in performances of La Traviata and West Side Story (concert version) with orchestra at the beautiful Baker Park in Naples, FL.  Further your career by engaging in an intensive program of training and performance opportunities led by Artistic Director, Ramon Tebar.  Artists are provided a stipend and local housing. 

Juilliard's Mary Birnbaum offers an online class for Opera and Musical Theater professionals who want to transcend technique and re-ignite their sense of play while singing.   Utilizing various aspects of the movement pedagogy developed by French physical theater master Jacques Lecoq this affordable workshop is designed especially for the virtual classroom in conjunction with New York's Movement Theater Studio. Sessions begin October 17.
