In addition to choral responsibilities in the season, GYAs also sing supporting roles and/or cover leading and featured roles in mainstage productions. Gerdine Young Artists further enjoy extensive coaching, appear in solo settings in various educational outreach presentations, and participate in master classes with renowned artists. Sarasota Opera (Florida) is currently accepting applications for its winter 2017 Apprentice Artists Program (January 10-March 26). After completing its 28 year-long Verdi Cycle last season, the company turns its attention to works never previously performed on its stage. For winter 2017, these operas are Poulenc’s DIALOGUES OF THE CARMELITES and Rossini’s THE ITALIAN GIRL IN ALGIERS. The season is rounded out by Puccini’s MADAMA BUTTERFLY and Montemezzi’s THE LOVE OF THREE KINGS. In addition to performance opportunities, Apprentice Artists participate in coachings and masterclasses. Auditions are held in Sarasota, Chicago, and New York. Enrollment is now open for admission of opera singers to Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Academy / Opera di Firenze (Italy). The objective of the course is the advanced vocational training of opera singers, with the goal of favouring a solid beginning and advancement of the career. Young artists will be given the opportunity to attend lessons of highly qualified specialization, with the purpose of improving their technical, stylistic, interpretive and acting skills, and expanding cultural knowledge necessary to practice the profession. The course will run from November 2016 to June 2017, with a possible extension for work experience activities up to October 2017. Enrollment deadline: June 30, 2016.
