LEAD ROLES AVAILABLE IN TRANSFORMATIVE PROJECT
In 2018 Teatro Nuovo launched a new venture to revivify opera’s most beloved repertory: that of Italy in the Romantic era. Besides full immersion in the vocal style, ornamentation, and technical challenges of Bel Canto opera, Teatro Nuovo offers intensive Italian language courses and extended collaboration with a newly-formed period instrument orchestra.
Reviewing the two operas performed last summer, Heidi Waleson of the Wall Street Journal described the innovations and summed them up: "The effect was transformative." George Loomis of The Financial Times was equally emphatic: "This is the way it should be done."
Teatro Nuovo is seeking highly qualified Bel Canto singers to be a part of the transformation.
The 2019 program runs June 3 to July 21 and culminates in performances of Rossini's La gazza ladra and Bellini's La sonnambula. Principal and secondary roles, mainstage and cover, are available to program members.
Please visit our website (teatronuovo.org) for a complete description of our goals and curriculum. The opportunity is open to qualified singers at any level, from already-professional-with-management to advanced undergraduates and all stages between.
