The Solti Peretti Répétiteur Course offers a fully-funded 9-day course every year to six outstanding young repetiteurs. In collaboration with a world-class faculty and talented young singers, our course offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to help young pianists develop the many skills required of a répétiteur. Each participant receives a full scholarship to the course, covering their tuition and accommodation expenses.
The skill of a fine répétiteur can never be underestimated, nor can their importance in a singer’s life and development. The name ‘repetiteur’ belies the full nature of their work; they are the ultimate multi-taskers of the music world. Their eyes and ears must be constantly alert to what they’re hearing, whilst comparing and assessing it with the score in front of them. This is why so many go on to be some of the finest conductors in the world – Solti, Pappano, Gergiev and Muti, to name but a few.
On this course, participants will be given training and mentorship from some of today's most experienced opera conductors, coaches, and repetiteurs. The faculty in 2023 includes: Jonathan Papp (GSA Artistic Director, Vocal Coach @ Royal Opera House, Royal Academy of Music), Maestro Richard Bonynge (Opera Conductor), Anthony Legge (fmr. Asst. Artistic Director, Opera Australia), and James Vaughan (Principal Vocal Coach, Teatro alla Scala, Milan), among others.
Participants will receive at least six hours of training each day on various skills required of repetiteurs, including: vocal coaching, orchestral playing at the piano, reducing scores, sightreading, accompanying, and conducting. Repetiteurs on this course will also participate in a "mock audition", so they understand what to expect when applying for a position at a professional opera house. To support their study, six alumni of the Solti Accademia's Bel Canto Course come to the course to sing for the repetiteurs' teaching sessions.
The Solti Peretti Repetiteurs’ masterclasses are the first of their kind, offering outstanding young repetiteurs from all around the world an intense period of study with some of the finest repetiteurs of our day.
Alumni of the Solti Accademia's Solti-Peretti Repetiteur Course have gone on to hold positions at major international opera houses, young artist programmes, and conservatoires including: the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House (Covent Garden), Bayerisches Staatsoper, Opera National de Paris, Dutch National Opera, English National Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Theater an der Wien, Glyndebourne, Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Garsington, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Juilliard School, the Liceu in Barcelona, the Royal Academy of Music, the National Opera Studio, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and the Birmingham Conservatoire.
