Georg Solti Accademia 2023 Bel Canto Course for Singers: deadline 4 days away!

Every year the GSA Bel Canto summer school in Castiglione della Pescaia, Tuscany, offers up to twelve young singers a fully-funded, three-week immersion in Italian opera singing, with a focus on language, style and technique in the 19th and early 20th century Italian repertoire.

Each course participant receives a full scholarship, covering the entire cost of their tuition, accommodation, and meals throughout the duration of the ourse.

2023 Course Faculty includes: Jonathan Papp (GSA Artistic Director), Richard Bonynge, Leo Nucci, Stefano Baldasseroni, and Jonathan Palmer Lakeland, among others.

The path to becoming a fully-professional opera singer is a long one which demands commitment, dedication and continual development. The full immersion in “bel canto” music and the Italian way of life that the Georg Solti Accademia provides gives its students a unique experience, with a lasting impact on their future careers. Further, by having some of the world’s best opera singers, conductors, coaches, and professionals on our faculty and leadership team, the Accademia seeks to stay at the fore-front of professional opera training- providing students with the tailored musical/vocal coaching and individual attention they need in order to become the best opera singers they can be.

On the Solti Accademia's Bel Canto Course for Singers, your experience includes a mix of one-on-one musical coachings with GSA Artistic Director Jonathan Papp (Royal Opera House; Royal Academy of Music), Jonathan Lakeland (Conductor/Vocal Coach and Associate Director of the GSA) and Italian language coachings with coach Stefano Baldasseroni (Metropolitan Opera, Juilliard, the Curtis Institute of Music). Our guest faculty, which this year includes Richard Bonynge and Leo Nucci, present masterclasses and one-on-one coachings with you throughout the duration of the course as well - allowing course participants to draw on their unparalelled and decades-long experience in opera. The mission of the course is to provide each young artist with diverse, supportive, and insightful mentorship from outstanding musicians.

The alumni of the Accademia include some of the most accomplished young opera singers of our time, including Freddie de Tommaso, Aigul Akhmetshina, and Hera Hyesang Park, among many others. Many of our alumni have gone on to impressive professional careers with appearances at venues such as the Metropolitan Opera, Glyndebourne Opera, Royal Opera House, Bayerisches Staatsoper, Opera National de Paris, Washington National Opera, Berlin Staatsoper, Royal Swedish Opera, Hamburg State Opera, La Monnaie, Paris Opera, Vlaamse Opera, Aix-en-Provence Festival, Salzburg Festival and English National Opera.
