The Schmidt Vocal Institute (SVI) nurtures and mentors the development of talented, young singers from 15-18 years old. The curriculum focuses on training singers to have a healthy technique, improved musicianship, and outstanding performance skills. Singers study with the Miami University voice faculty as well as the 2018 guest faculty, including Nathan and Julie Gunn, Sylvia McNair, and Brian Zeger. In a special partnership with Cincinnati Opera, singers see a performance of La Traviata and attend a master class with a Cincinnati Opera Principal Artist. With courses in lyric diction, acting, Alexander Technique, historical performances, and vocal health, the course culminates with two public performances on campus in Oxford, OH.
