Opera in the Ozarks at Inspiration Point is an intensive, eight-week summer training and performance program for young singers, selected from competitive national auditions. Opera in the Ozarks has a venerable, continuous history of training young artists since 1950. No other training institute for young artists offers the scope and depth of this total immersion into the process of preparing multiple performances of operas in the original language with orchestra.
Alumni of Inspiration Point have sung in the major opera houses of the world; many others teach at prestigious colleges and universities. Artists are trained, conducted, coached and encouraged by a supportive, professional staff. Included are all training, coaching, workshops, and nurturing required to present opera in full productions—scenery, lights, costumes, wigs, supertitles—accompanied by a professional orchestra.
Four full-scholarship awards are available for Emerging Artist applicants who audition online for priority consideration by December 1. Those selected for these awards will be notified by December 20 and will commit to joining the OIO 2023 Company by January 6. Those not selected for these awards and early admission will be given full consideration for admission and financial aid in February.
The 2023 season, for which artists will be in residence May 24-July 22, will include three double-cast, fully staged productions of Donizetti’s L’elisir d’amore (sung in Italian), Offenbach’s Orphée aux Enfers (in French, English dialogue), and Copland’s The Tender Land. There will be seven or eight performances of each production, each double cast. Numerous performances of the Studio Artist outreach opera for children, Cinderella, will be presented in venues throughout Northwest Arkansas. Two popular Broadway Cabaret evenings are planned during the 2023 season.
