The goal of the Miami Opera Institute is to provide every singer with the opportunity to study and perform a role in a full opera production with orchestra. Participants receive vocal lessons, masterclasses and coachings by the festival's faculty in order to prepare them for their upcoming performances. In conjunction with the Vocal and Coaching Staff, participants will have the opportunity to work under World Renowned Conductors and Stage Directors in a professional environment during Stagings, Sitz Probes, Orchestral Techs and Performances. 2015 Productions will include Mozart-Don Giovanni, Britten- Albert Herring, Massenet- Cendrillon, and Humperdink- Hansel and Gretel. All performances will be accompanied by the Festival's Orchestra and will be Fully Staged with Costumes and performed at various locations in Miami including the New World Center and the Broad Theatre. Students will have the opportunity to purchase a professional video of their opera performances to use for their promotional purposes.
During the festival, students enrolled in the Opera Institute will have the unique opportunity to attend the Michael Heaston Audition Workshop. Michael Heaston is the Young Artist Program Director of both of Glimmerglass and Washington National Opera. In addition to providing vocal masterclasses and mock auditions, Michael Heaston will give classes on audition taking, resumes, headshots, audition attire, writing a biography, and websites.
