5 singers and 1-2 pianists will participate in a holistic program that addresses the needs of young artists pursuing a career in opera taking into consideration the current demands on artists. Young artists will be working primarily on full Italian opera roles and arias. Singers will receive 1:1 vocal coaching on full Italian opera roles from conductor Louis Salemno. Singers will receive daily coaching and recitative workshops with Maestro Louis Salemno. Voice lessons will be taught by baritone Javier Arrey. Career discussions with Sherrill Milnes, Elizabeth Bishop, and Hans Stein among others.

5 singers and 1-2 pianists will participate in an intensive, holistic program that addresses the needs of young artists pursuing a career in opera. Young artists will be working primarily on full Italian opera roles and arias. Artists will leave our program having perfected as best as possible at least one full Italian opera role.
Young Artists will receive 1:1 vocal coaching on full Italian opera roles from conductor Louis Salemno. Maestro Salemno was selected by Plácido Domingo to work at Washington National Opera’s (WNO) Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program where he has been resident coach for the last 11 years. Prior to his post at WNO, Maestro Salemno held posts at Teatro Alla Scala (Milan, Italy), Barcelona’s Teatro del Liceu, Teatro Real de Madrid, Teatro Principal de Valencia, Houston Grand Opera, Dallas Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and San Francisco Opera among others.
Participants will receive voice lessons and taught by baritone Javier Arrey whose upcoming season includes appearances at the Metropolitan Opera and at Washington Concert Opera. Arrey’s previous experience includes engagements at the Metropolitan Opera, Vienna State Opera, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia of Valencia, Washington National Opera, Washington Opera, Prague’s Estates Theater, Opera Lafayette, Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, and Teatro Municipal de Santiago Chile among others.
The program will also have career discussions with renowned figures from around the industry including the acclaimed Mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Bishop and the legendary baritone Sherrill Milnes among others. Additionally, workshops will be included regarding how to properly prepare/present one’s marketing materials, and how to navigate the world of agents, casting directors, producers, and conductors. The three-week intensive will culminate in a final concert at the Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C. where area conductors and administrators will be invited.
