The James Toland Vocal Arts Competition will provide financial awards, performance opportunities, master classes, and encouragement to singers who aspire to a professional career in vocal performance. Competition winners will receive cash awards. For Tier One: 1st place - $5,000, 2nd place - $3,000, 3rd place - $2,000, Audience Favorite (selected by vote at the finals) - $1,000. For Tier Two: 1st place - $2,000, 2nd place - $1,500, 3rd place - $1,000, Audience Favorite - $500. In addition, there will be four Encouragement Awards in each of the two tiers for those finalists who do not win 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place: Tier One - $500, Tier Two - $300. The 1st place winner in Tier One will also receive the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Oakland East Bay Symphony under Music Director Michael Morgan.
