Hawaii Performing Arts Festival is set in one of the world's most unique and inspiring settings, the Big Island of Hawaii. Our outstanding faculty and artistic staff lead an intensive study/performance program with participating singers showcasing their talent as they take on a role in one of our fully staged productions. This summer, we will present As One, Orpheus in the Underworld, and Hair. Participants are immersed in vocal lessons, musical coachings, dramatic coachings, and Hawaiian cultural exploration. Additional performance opportunities include outreach experiences, concerts, and masterclasses. Apply today to become a member of our ohana, and experience paradise for yourself!
As One (Kaminsky, Campbell, Reed) – June 26-July 17
Orpheus in the Underworld (Offenbach) – June 26-July 17
Hair (MacDermot, Ragni, Rado) – July 3-July 25
Young Singer Program – July 3-July 25
*As a special opportunity, Hair cast members will get to work with acclaimed Mexican-American composer Joey Contreras. This summer, Joey will work with our musical theatre artists in a concert of his work, AN EVENING WITH JOEY CONTRERAS & FRIENDS. Each participant will receive an individual coaching with Joey on one of his selected works for this performance.
Joey Contreras is a New York based, musical theatre and pop songwriter, internationally known for his various projects, performances and studio album releases, amassing millions of streams. He is a Fred Ebb Award finalist, a two-time Jonathan Larson Grant finalist, and an alum from the Johnny Mercer Songwriters Project and NYU Grad MT Writing Program. His musical “In Pieces” is currently licensed worldwide. A highlights album was released by Broadway Records in 2021.
