The Handel Aria Competition was created to promote the performance of Handel’s extensive vocal repertoire. The final round will take place on Friday June 7, 2019 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Mead Witter School of Music.
Thanks to the generosity of the London Handel Festival, the 2019 Handel Aria Competition first prize winner will be invited to give a recital during the 2020 London Handel Festival in Handel’s own parish church, St George’s in Hanover Square. The Handel Aria Competition will provide a travel grant of up to $750, and the London Handel Festival will arrange for lodging, accompaniment, and a small stipend.
Auditions are open to all voice types. Contestants must be 18-35 years old as of the day of the finals. Past finalists are eligible to audition, with the exception of first prize winners.
Accompaniment will be provided by the Madison Bach Musicians.
The seven finalists will each perform two arias by Handel. Competition pitch is A=415.
