Finger Lakes Opera is pleased to announce auditions for the Tomita Young Artist program as part of Finger Lakes Opera’s 2020 festival season. Founded in 2017 Artistic Director Gerard Floriano and named in honor of a pacesetting endowment gift, this highly selective and intensive 5 -week comprehensive training program provides participants with:
• an individualized and participant-centered approach to developing talented singers in operatic career preparation
• extensive learning opportunities balancing practical instruction, performance training, as well as one-on-one instruction and coaching
• multiple performing opportunities including a fully-staged opera scenes program, solo and ensemble concert performance opportunities with the Finger Lakes Opera Orchestra, a fully-staged children’s opera, as well as ensemble and comprimario roles in main stage productions as appropriate
• regular vocal coachings and masterclasses, as well as training in choreography and stage movement
The Tomita Young Artist program offers up to 12 positions each year. Young artists will earn weekly stipends of $250 as well as accommodations while in residence.
Vocal Collaborative Piano Program
A select group of pianists will have the opportunity to participate in the Vocal Collaborative Piano Institute on full scholarship with housing. Pianists interested in gaining knowledge and experience in the operatic field as vocal coaches, accompanists, and repetiteurs will have the unique opportunity to study and work alongside the artistic staff and guest artists of Finger Lakes Opera.
Vocal Collaborative Pianists should prepare two contrasting arias or selections from any of the following Operas.
Mozart- Le nozze di Figaro
Mozart- Magic Flute
Mozart- Don Giovanni
Puccini- La Boheme
Applicants may also be asked to play live auditions at sight during one of the live audition dates.
