The American Traditions Vocal Competition: early deadline approaching!

Come see why our competition is like none other:

  • no upper age limit (You are not too old! We welcome applications from anyone over 18.)
  • no need to make a video or have certain accomplishments or lack certain accomplishments (all prescreens are based on vocals only - no names)
  • no need to be stuck within the gender confines of who played the character before (if your song is part of a larger body of work)
  • Special cash awards for Best Spiritual, Best Aria, Best Jazz tune, Best Johnny Mercer tune, audience favorites, and our special award: nicest colleague
  • Over $40,000 in cash prizes, plus a paid concert for the winner with the Savannah Philharmonic
  • relationships with orchestras across the country.  Our artists have been featured at Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Asheville Symphony, Buffalo Symphony, Hilton Head Symphony, Jacksonville Symphony, Tallahassee Symphony, and more
  • Opera and Classical Singers (Will Liverman, Jasmine Habersham, Jasmine Muhammad, Elizabeth Baldwin, Sarah Mesko, Aundi Marie Moore, Sequina Bianca Sarah Beckham Turner and others)

If you feel daunted by the need to pick nine songs from different genres, we encourage you to instead think of nine songs you love and see where they fit, in terms of genre - don't try to learn nine new songs! Follow the Renée Fleming Inner Voice advice: pick your easiest songs and sing 'em well!  If you have questions, please email our Executive Director.

Unlike most competitions, our Executive Director is a former competitor, several of our board members are former competitors, and each year, about 25-40% of our contestants are returning through the prescreen. We are here to support you.

We welcome you to join us and explore American song.
