The Modern Opera Studio is a result of a collaboration between Opera More and Estate Musicale Frentana, two organizations that for years have been involved in concerts, opera theatre, and workshops in Italy as a way of sharing musical culture outside of metropolitan areas. This summer program has a unique goal: transmitting to the next generation of young artists the experience acquired by professionals that have worked in International Opera Theatres and sharing secrets of the trade. This summer in the beautiful Teatro Fenaroli, selected singers will have a chance to debut in a full version (orchestra and scenography) of LE NOZZE DI FIGARO by W. A. Mozart in LANCIANO in the beautiful region of Abruzzo near the sea. 

Are you ready to dance a Can-Can this summer?  Check out JMU's German Opera Experience!  From May 17 - July 20th we will select 20 students to perform chorus and roles in Lehar's The Merry Widow with a professional company in Schoenebeck, Germany.  The course includes for solos with Middle-Germany philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Lieder concerts and German Language instruction for graduate/undergraduate college credit. Music Theater and Classical Singers as well as collaborative pianists are invited to apply. Eleven fully staged performances of HMS Pinafore with professional orchestra. Leads are double cast.  All will sing chorus when not in lead roles.  We aim to produce Light Opera that looks like all of us!  

The 17th Annual Harold Haugh Light Opera Vocal Competition. Saturday, March 7, 2020, Jackson Symphony Hall, Jackson, MI. A Competition In Which Operatically Trained Singers Prove They Can Entertain. Uniquely, the HHLOVC rewards acting and even humor along with vocal ability… necessary abilities in today’s opera stars. Known for its organization and friendly atmosphere, the event invites singers to join in luncheon and dinner. Awards of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 are given to the top finalists, and all finalists receive $300. In addition, there is a Young Artist award and an Audience Favorite award. Founded by Metropolitan Opera Assistant Conductor Joan Dornemann and Metropolitan Opera Conductor Paul Nadler in 1986, the International Vocal Arts Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to finding and training the most talented young opera singers around the world. IVAI is an intensive training ground designed to tailor fit your needs. Whether you are a young singer with boundless potential, or a seasoned performer looking for extra polish, IVAI is designed with you in mind to help push you to the next level. IVAI is a ten day intensive providing voice lessons, coachings, and training in vocal technique, presentation, acting, language and diction, as well performances in masterclasses, concerts, and fully staged productions.

Classic Lyric Arts Italy is an intensive, dual session three-and-a-half week summer training program in the Périgord region of southwest France (June 2-25) and in Novafeltria, Italy (July 19-August13). An immersive program, CLA provides multi-faceted training tailored to the specific level of each participant, from undergraduate to young professional artist. Participants experience the rich cultural heritage of France and Italy while studying opera and chanson through the perspective of language, providing them with the needed tools to hone their performance skills in the traditional repertoire. SONGFEST: Singers/Collab. pianists - May 27-June 22, 2020.  Live Audition visit songfest.us • Recorded deadline: Feb 14.   SongFest is a student-centered festival dedicated to the study and performance of art song. Participants work with renowned faculty, composers, and voice teachers in private coachings, lessons, and masterclasses. SongFest is hosted by the Colburn School located in L.A. and is packed with performance opportunities and world-class faculty. Scholarships are available!   Selected faculty includes pianists Graham Johnson, Martin Katz, Kevin Murphy, and Roger Vignoles; composers John Harbison, Jake Heggie, Libby Larsen, John Musto, and Sheila Silver; and singers: John Aler, Amy Burton, Lorraine Manz and William McGraw.

Canto Vocal Programs returns to Louisville in July with a production of La Traviata. Our newest program in Rocca di Cambio, Italy (Abruzzo) joins other 2020 programs (Zagreb, Bucharest, New York and Bordeaux.) Canto's expert faculty (MET, Les Maîtres Sonneurs, Theater Lübeck and more) helps each singer develop the skills that are the hallmark of great performers. All our programs offer individual attention and personalized approach. Daily musical and dramatic coachings, languages, master classes and concerts provide singers with the tools that result in rapid progress.
