Juilliard's Mary Birnbaum offers an online class for Opera and Musical Theater professionals who want to transcend technique and re-ignite their sense of play while singing. Utilizing various aspects of the movement pedagogy developed by French physical theater master Jacques Lecoq this affordable workshop is designed especially for the virtual classroom in conjunction with New York's Movement Theater Studio. Sessions begin February 27th.
Aquilon Music Festival, located in picturesque Oregon wine country, is now accepting applications for the 2021 season. Aquilon will pre-premiere OURLAND, a new opera composed by Paul Davies with libretto by Daniel Helfgot. Set in a dystopian state, the plot centers on intolerance towards the ‘other’, the foreigner, the different, and minorities. It outlines the life and death consequences of bigotry and xenophobia. Harold Haugh Light Opera Video Contest: For 2021, due to the pandemic, the Competition will be replaced by the Light Opera Video Contest. Singers are invited to submit an original video, in which they perform a light opera number. It's a competition without an entry fee, and no travel expenses! Singers should concentrate on the ENTERTAINMENT aspect of the video, not just singing well. Include staging in your performance, and be creative. The Tomita Young Artist training program is intended for singers and pianists with outstanding potential to have the opportunity to perform alongside FLO's professional artists during the summer season (July 8 - August 8); plus the possibility of an additional commitment for one week TBD. The 2021 season features fully staged productions including The Barber of Seville, a children's opera, and an opera scenes concert, as well as a concert of opera arias, ensembles, and musical theatre selections with the Finger Lakes Opera Orchestra. All participants are paid a weekly stipend, a travel stipend, and are provided housing. Auditions will be held virtually this season via YAP Tracker. Deadline: January 4.
