For over forty seasons, The Ohio Light Opera has dedicated itself to the exploration and production of the best of traditional operetta and musical theater. In order to ensure that as many contestants as possible can safely prepare for and participate in this year's contest, the application deadline for the 2022 Lenya Competition preliminary auditions has been extended to Wednesday, 2 February. Competition guidelines otherwise remain unchanged. Contestants may still use pre-recorded accompaniment in their preliminary audition videos if COVID mandates. Adjustments to the dates and format of the semifinal round are also under consideration. In 1977, the Oratorio Society of New York inaugurated an annual Solo Competition designed to encourage the art of oratorio singing and to give talented young singers an opportunity to advance their careers. The Competition has become international in scope and well-known in the music world, and is the only major competition to focus exclusively on oratorio singing. $22,000 in cash prizes. Age Limit 40 years - must be born after Jan. 1, 1982. Open to singers who are early in their oratorio career.
