Applications close today for Mascarade Emerging Artists, an opera training and performance programme at the Mascarade Opera Foundation in Florence, run in collaboration with Teatro La Fenice in Venice, for exceptionally talented young singers and répétiteurs. Training provision is carefully structured around performance opportunities, including main stage roles and covers at the programme's partner houses across Europe. Consequently, artists can enjoy the unique prospect of translating what they have learnt into professional practice on stage. Places on the programme are entirely funded with artists receiving tuition, maintenance and accommodation grants equivalent to entry-level salaried positions in the industry.

Now in its 9th year, participants and winners of the John Alexander National Vocal Competition have gone on to enjoy successful careers in opera and musical theatre. It's a chance to sing for some of the leading casting and stage directors, win cash prizes, and build relationships that will last a lifetime. Eight finalists are chosen from virtual auditions, and invited to perform at the "Future Stars of the Stage" Winners’ Concert on Feb. 13, 2023, in Jackson, MS. Final prizes and placement will be announced at the concert. Monetary prizes for First Place are $1,200, Second Place $900. Housing and travel to and from Jackson covered by Opera Mississippi. Winners are also considered for roles in upcoming Opera Mississippi productions.
In July 2023, Opera North offers three imaginative productions with orchestra, including Bizet’s Carmen and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, and concerts with orchestra, at our outdoor home, the stunning Blow Me Down Farm on the banks of the Connecticut River. These productions feature our Resident Artists in all roles whenever possible. The application deadline is November 1. After materials are reviewed, singers will be invited to schedule an audition. This fall, Opera North will offer live virtual auditions November 15 – 19 as well as in-person auditions in Dallas (November 5), Chicago (November 6), New York City (November 11-13), and Boston (November 20). For 43 seasons, The Ohio Light Opera has dedicated itself to the exploration and production of the best of traditional operetta and musical theater. This includes the complete Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire, as well as the recognized treasures from the Viennese, French, Hungarian, German, and American repertoire. The 30 performing artists who make up the vocal ensemble are chosen for their abilities to perform and work at the highest level in all disciplines demanded by the company’s specialized repertoire.
