The 9th annual German vocal competition seeks to offer support to rising professional singers. This year the finalists will sing one song in their native language along with two contrasting German selections. 1st Prize - $5,000; 2nd Prize - $4,000; 3rd Prize - $3,000; Finalist Awards - $2,000; Audience Favorite - $500. Nashville Opera is accepting applications for the 2025 Mary Ragland Emerging Artists. Four singers and one pianist will be selected for this paid 12-week opportunity. Emerging Artists will perform roles in the winter mainstage production of Gilbert & Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore, be featured soloists at the company's black-tie gala, headline the 2025 Nashville Opera On Tour education program, and cover roles in the season's closing production, Lucia di Lammermoor. Emerging artists will also receive weekly coaching sessions and get the chance to work with an esteemed clinician for a featured masterclass, all included in the program.

There’s still time to enter! Deadline Nov. 10: Now in its 10th year, participants and winners of the John Alexander National Vocal Competition have gone to enjoy successful careers in opera and musical theatre. It’s a chance to sing for some of the leading casting and stage directors, win cash prizes, and build relationships that will last a lifetime. Eight finalists will be chosen from virtual auditions, and invited to perform at the “Vibrations” National Winners Concert on February 19, 2024 in Jackson, MS. Final prizes and placements will be announced at the concert. Monetary prizes for First Place are $1,200, Second Place $900. Housing and travel to and from Jackson covered by Opera Mississippi. Winners are also considered for roles in upcoming Opera Mississippi productions.
For 44 seasons, The Ohio Light Opera has dedicated itself to the exploration and production of the best of traditional operetta and musical theater. This includes the complete Gilbert and Sullivan repertoire, as well as the recognized treasures from the Viennese, French, Hungarian, German, and American repertoire. The 36 performing artists who make up the vocal ensemble are chosen for their abilities to perform and work at the highest level in all disciplines demanded by the company’s specialized repertoire. Our 2024 audition process includes BOTH in-person and virtual audition opportunities. The application deadline for both options is October 22nd.
