Young Patronesses of the Opera

Young Patronesses of the Opera Vocal Competition 2019

This application closed on Monday February 4, 2019.

The Young Patronesses of the Opera/Florida Grand Opera Voice Competition takes place in Miami Beach, Florida, on April 12 and 13, 2019. It provides financial aid to young opera singers who are pursuing careers as solo artists. This support may be applied to tuition at the undergraduate or graduate level, or may be used for any other expenses incurred in the pursuit or sustaining of a beginning career, such as role preparation, continuing vocal study, language study, publicity photos, or audition expenses.

Competitions are held in two categories: Junior Young Artist (20-25) and Senior Young Artist (26-30). Singers must provide a repertoire list of five arias from the opera repertoire, with audio versions of at least two. The same repertoire must be used for all levels of the competition, so please make sure that the audio selections you submit with your application are pieces you are prepared to sing for the judges in April. Current members of Florida Grand Opera's Young Artist Studio are not eligible to participate in the competition.

Approximately 30 semifinalists will be invited to Miami to audition for the judges on Friday, April 12. Approximately 10 finalists will be invited to audition before the judges and a live audience on Saturday, April 13. All finalists will be awarded at least $1,000, with grand prizes of $10,000 (Senior) or $7,500 (Junior). Semifinalists who don't advance to the finals will receive a small stipend to help defray the costs of attending the competition.
