Resident Artist Program Application (2021 Auditions)

This application closed on Sunday September 19, 2021.

We will be holding our annual live audition tour in New York City, Cincinnati, and Pittsburgh. In addition, we will be working together with other young artist programs on a coordinated virtual audition process as an option in lieu of a live audition. Steps are outlined below to guide your understanding of this shared video audition process, followed by information about our live audition process.

Step 1: Apply to each program as you normally would. Applications are due Sunday, September 12.

Step 2: Notifications of video auditions will be sent by each company by Friday, October 8. This notification will contain a link to submit a new aria list.

Step 3: Submit your aria list (one list for all programs), indicating your chosen “starter” aria, by Tuesday, October 12.

Step 4: Notification of requested arias from your list (one request for all programs) will be uploaded to your YAP Tracker application on Wednesday, October 20.

Step 5: Record a new video audition and submit the video to each company via YAP Tracker by Friday, November 5.

Please note that to have a live audition, you must be fully vaccinated (with proof) by your audition date. Anyone who is unable to comply, should choose the video audition option.

Step 2: Notifications of live auditions for Pittsburgh Opera will be sent by Monday, November 8. Information about showing proof of vaccination will be sent with audition notifications.

Step 3: Attend your live audition. If you are not fully vaccinated by the time of your audition, you must choose the video audition option on your application.

References / Letters of Recommendation

Two References are required from recognized authorities in the opera field (voice teacher, coach, conductor, director, etc). While they do not need to submit a letter or fill out a form, references may be contacted by Pittsburgh Opera staff by phone or email. You may also include a recent letter of recommendation via the scanned/uploaded process, if you wish to do so. Please note: the scanned/uploaded process requires that you attach a letter to the recommender before adding that recommender to this form. Please review the FAQ for the recommendation requirements before proceeding with that selection option.

Audition Dates / Virtual Audition Preference

Please indicate your preferred location/date for a live audition or select the virtual video audition option. When selecting a live audition date, you should plan to be available for a potential callback audition during the selected timeframe as well. Cincinnati and Pittsburgh callbacks will take place within the dates listed below, New York callbacks will be Friday, December 10. Pittsburgh Opera will make every effort to accommodate audition date/time requests. New York applicants should select multiple dates ONLY if planning to be in New York City for the entire audition period. Applicants unable to appear for a scheduled audition will be eliminated from consideration. Applicants who cancel an audition because of illness cannot be granted an audition after the last posted audition date. You must sing a callback audition to be considered for the program.
