Opera Saratoga - 2024 Summer Festival Artist Program for Singers

This year Opera Saratoga will be auditioning singers via video submission. Audition details will be sent at the time auditions are granted. Directing Fellow candidates will be contacted for an interview in lieu of an audition; Coach/pianist and Conducting Fellow candidates will be contacted by the Head of Music Staff.

The application deadline is September 15, 2023. No applications will be received after this deadline.

Please Note: All artists must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to work at Opera Saratoga.

Audio - Mandatory for Singers, Conductors and Pianist/Coach Applicants

Audio Selections

Please read this section carefully:

Singers and Pianists MUST submit two contrasting audio arias/excerpts recorded within the past 12 months. For Singers, selections may be with piano or orchestra, but may not be a cappella. For Singers and Pianists, recordings must be of operatic repertoire, not song literature. As Opera Saratoga regularly produces 21st century works, we encourage singers to include one aria that demonstrates their facility with contemporary music idioms, if available.

For Conductors, only one audio sample is required demonstrating your piano skills accompanying a singer in any operatic repertoire. MP3 preferred. Please ensure that your recordings are of high quality.

Directors: do not submit any audio or video.

Video - Mandatory for Conductor Applicants*

Video Excerpts: CONDUCTORS must submit a video showing recent conducting experience ideally demonstrating a varied selection of repertoire; showing front view of the conductor from a reasonable distance. An example of operatic conducting is preferred but not required. SINGERS - DO NOT SUBMIT VIDEO IN PLACE OF AUDIO SAMPLES. Singers must submit 2 audio samples above for their application to be considered. Singers may submit video samples to supplement the above audio samples, but NOT in place of them. YouTube link(s) preferred. Minimum number of selections permitted: 1. Maximum number of selections permitted: 2

Singers must submit a musical theater song recorded in the past 12 months. Please note that a musical theater selection may not be submitted in place of the operatic selections required above.*

PLEASE ANSWER IF YOU ARE OVER 30 YEARS OLD: the Festival Artist Program at Opera Saratoga does not have an age limit, as we recognize that people may follow various paths to an operatic career. If you are over 30, please explain below why you feel that spending the summer with Opera Saratoga is an appropriate next step for you.
