Opera Saratoga - 2021 Summer Young Artist Program for Singers

This application closed on Monday October 12, 2020.

Due to the pandemic, Opera Saratoga will not hold in-person auditions this season. Opera companies across the country are collaborating to streamline a virtual audition process for their respective young artists programs. Opera Saratoga is partnering with a consortium of companies nationwide, led by Houston Grand Opera, to offer coordinated virtual auditions for the 2021 Summer Festival.

Step 1: Apply to each program as you normally would. Applications are due Monday, October 12.

Step 2: Notifications of the second round of video auditions will be sent by each company by Friday, November 6. This notification will contain a link to submit an aria list.

Step 3: Submit your aria list (one list that will be shared with all programs that have moved your application to a second-round video audition), indicating your chosen “starter” aria, by Tuesday, November 10.

Step 4: Notification of the requested arias from your list (one request for all programs) will be sent on Friday, November 13.

Step 5: Record a new video audition and submit the video by Monday, November 30.

THERE IS NO FEE TO APPLY TO THE YOUNG ARTIST PROGRAM AT OPERA SARATOGA THIS SEASON.

Audio - Opera Aria Recordings (REQUIRED)

Audio Selections: Singers must submit two contrasting opera arias/excerpts recorded within the past 12 months. Selections may be with piano or orchestra, but may not be a cappella. Recordings must be of operatic repertoire, not song literature or oratorio. One selection must be in English. As Opera Saratoga regularly produces 21st century works, we encourage singers to submit one aria that demonstrates their faciltiy with contemporary musical idioms, if available.*

Audio - Musical Theater (OPTIONAL)

If you have a musical theater song recorded in the past 12 months, you may submit this for consideration in addition to your two operatic arias. Please note that a musical theater selection may not be submitted in place of the operatic selections required above.

PLEASE ANSWER IF YOU ARE OVER 30 YEARS OLD: The Young Artist Program at Opera Saratoga does not have an age limit, as we recognize that people may follow various paths to an operatic career. However, as a young artist development program, most participating artists are in their twenties. If you are over 30, please explain below why you feel that spending the summer with Opera Saratoga is an appropriate next step for you.
