Opera MODO Mainstage and Detroit Aria Competition Auditions

#SuperFlute, Opera MODO's Winter 2022 production of Mozart's The Magic Flute:

We are excited to announce auditions for Opera MODO's Winter 2022 production of #SuperFlute (Mozart’s The Magic Flute, sung in English, with a conceptual re-design and translation by Pacific Opera Project).

All rehearsals and performances will take place in Detroit, MI. Performance dates are February 18 & 19, 2022.

#SuperFlute Audition Video Requirements:

Two operatic arias, one preferably in English.

Opera MODO Presents: Detroit Aria Competition 2021:

We know things aren’t entirely back to normal, and yet we firmly believe performers deserve opportunities to perform, safely, for audiences. And to sometimes be rewarded for their excellence.

We invite artists of any age to share their artistry, both in our productions and for this competition.

Artists under the age of 22 are limited to American art songs and/or songs by Sondheim, a rich repertoire that should provide plenty of material for fine musical storytelling.

All other applicants are required to submit opera arias in any language. Storytelling and captivating artistry are our primary objectives at Opera MODO; we ask the same of all you, and look forward to your applications!

#Competition Audition Video Requirements:

Two video performances fulfilling the repertoire requirements for your age category. The video should be uploaded to YouTube and a link submitted in your YAP Tracker application. These videos may not be from a staged production, but should be performed with accompaniment, like an audition video. Stating your name and performance selection is not required.

Please note:

1. Proof of Michigan/Ohio/Indiana residency is required. A photo of a state-issued ID is acceptable.

2. By applying to this competition, all winners consent to allowing their name and photo to be posted on one or more of Opera MODO’s social media accounts. Winners will be announced first in person at the end of the final round at Christ Church Detroit, and subsequently posted on social media.

3. Applicants must follow the repertoire requirements for their age category.
