Welcome to the 6th Biennial 2025 | Benjamin Matthews Vocal Competition held in honor of the Founder of Opera Ebony, Mr. Benjamin Matthews.
We are excited for this year's competition and once again will feature two Artist Divisions with total prizes over $18,000 provided by the generous gift giving of our wonderful donors and Board Members.
Artists of all nationalities are welcomed and strongly encouraged to apply.

You will submit all 4 audition pieces for Prelims.
Once Semi Finalists are announced, repertoire changes will not be allowed.
Required Repertiore:
One (1) Spiritual, in the traditional/classical style
One (1) Art Song by Black Composer
One (1) Aria in original language and key
One (1) Musical Theatre Song in the Golden Age style, "a la," Hammerstein, Rogers, Ebb, Lowe...
* Age restriction of 35 years, is base on your age as of December 31, 2025
* Previous Emerging Artists 1st Place winners are ineligible. Previous Youth Artists 1st Place winners may apply into the Emerging Artists Division, but restricted from Youth Division.
