The Marguerite McCammon International Voice Competition Official Rules
Welcome to The Marguerite McCammon International Voice Competition! We’re excited to have you join us. Here are the rules for the competition:
- Eligibility: The competition is open to all singers 21 years or age or older as of the application deadline date. Age verification documents will be required. Singers must not have or have ever had professional management. There is no application fee. The competition is capped at the first 500 eligible and complete entries received before the deadline of October 1, 2024. The application portal will close at 11:59 on October 1, 2024. There will be no exceptions.
- Judging Parameters: Judging in the first two rounds will be based on vocal quality alone: legato, beauty of tone, accuracy of diction, musical execution, repertoire suitability, healthy vocal production, and communicative ability.
- Round 1: Participants are required to submit a 5-minute, audio-only “supercut”. A “supercut” is a compilation of short audio clips showcasing your best and most memorable moments. It should include excerpts from your performances, each at least 30 seconds long, showcasing a variety of languages, styles, and skills. All excerpts should be from recordings made within the last 2 years. Only audio files in mp3 format will be accepted, and only piano accompaniments are permitted.
- Round 2: From Round 1, 48 singers will be selected. 5 alternates will be chosen in case of cancellation. Upon notification, these competitors must submit complete recordings of 4 arias in contrasting styles, languages, and skills. These recordings must also have been created in the past 2 years. Only audio files in mp3 format will be accepted, and only piano accompaniments are permitted.
- Final Round: The 4 arias submitted for Round 2 will also be the repertoire for the final round, and no changes will be permitted. 10 singers will be chosen to come sing in person in the Final Round. 5 alternates will be chosen in case of cancellation. Pianist will be provided.
- Prizes: monetary awards and possible future collaborations with Fort Worth Opera.
We wish you the best of luck and look forward to hearing your beautiful voices.
