Kentucky Opera Studio Artists Program: Pianists Application Form

Kentucky Opera is auditioning for members of the 2015/2016 Studio Artist Program. Each year, a coach/accompanist/assistant conductor is chosen to work with our company. The Studio Coach will work closely with the Studio Artist Music Director and Principal Conductor to prepare Studio Artist singers’ roles and covers as well as develop their own repetiteur skills and techniques. Projects will include Kentucky Opera Chorus rehearsals, mainstage productions, masterclasses with guest artists, the Composer Workshop, outreach events and educational programs. The program runs end of August through November, returning in January through late February, depending on the schedule. The 2015/2016 mainstage repertoire is Macbeth by Verdi, Three Decembers by Jake Heggie, and The Abduction from Seraglio by Mozart.

Repertoire for audition includes:

Play AND sing one of the following Verdi excerpts:

RIGOLETTO – “Cortigiani…” to the end of the aria
FALSTAFF – Ford’s aria
LA TRAVIATA – “Ah! fors’è lui che l’anima” (taking the standard cut)

Play AND sing one of the following Mozart excerpts:

LE NOZZE DI FIGARO recitative “È decisa la lite . . .” and sextet
COSÌ FAN TUTTE sextet with the following recit, ending at "Inflebil metro."

Play AND sing all of the following excerpts:

CARMEN Quintet “Nous avons en tête . . .”
LA BOHÈME Act I up to Benoit’s entrance
20^th or 21^st century aria or art song

Applicant may be asked to sight read and/or conduct as well.
