The purpose of the competition is to encourage emerging singers of all voice types to explore the repertoire of George Frideric Handel.

Audio Recording

The submission should consist of an unedited audio (no video) recording of two Handel arias, one in English and one in another language. The selections can be from any Handel work (opera, oratorio, motet, etc.) Singers will be judged on historically-informed Baroque performance practice, particularly with regard to stylistically-appropriate ornamentation, as well as overall musicianship and singing ability. Please visit our website for complete requirements: handelariacompetition.org. Label recording with your name and titles of arias. Piano, harpsichord, and/or instrumental accompaniment at either A=440 Hz or A=415 Hz will be accepted for the recording; however, the finals will be accompanied by harpsichord and instrumental ensemble at A=415 Hz. Please make sure mic placement and recording quality allow for an accurate representation of your singing. Technically poor recordings will be rejected. Number of selections required: 2.
