Chautauqua Opera Company 2025 Young Artist Program

Chautauqua Opera Company is currently accepting applications for its 2025 Young Artist Program. 

Chautauqua Opera Company’s 2025 season will feature one production, and two workshops of contemporary works in development.  Chautauqua Opera Company will employ up to 16 Young Artists for the 2025 season.

Production: Puccini's La bohème will be given one performance in Chautauqua’s Amphitheater.
All roles will be sung and covered by Young Artists. 

Workshop #1: Lincoln in the Bardo, by Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek (commissioned by The Metropolitan Opera) will be given a two-week music workshop, including 4 services with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra.  Three orchestra services will used to read and rehearse the entire score.  The final orchestra service will be a public presentation of approximately 60 minutes of excerpts, followed by conversation with the creators.  One Guest Artist will be engaged for the workshop.  All other roles will be sung and covered by Chautauqua Opera Company Young Artists and students of the Chautauqua Opera Conservatory.  All orchestra services will be recorded to create a reference recording, which will be shared with LA Opera and the Metropolitan Opera.  

Workshop #2: Title TBD.  This will be a one- to two-week workshop with piano accompaniment, culminating in a public presentation.  An archival recording of the piece will be captured and shared with the creators.

Application Screening and Audition Review Process

Steps are outlined below to guide your understanding of this year’s audition process. 

Step 1: Applications for Chautauqua Opera Company are due September 15 (deadline extended)

Step 2: Notifications of second-round video auditions will be sent by October 12.

Step 3: Applicants who are granted a video audition will be required to record and submit two selections in one continuous video recording (without stopping the camera). Repertoire for video auditions will be selected by the singer.

Step 4: Record your video audition and submit by November 10.
