Charlottesville Opera, formerly Ash Lawn Opera, is located in beautiful Charlottesville, Virginia and provides training and performance opportunities for emerging singers and pianists. Our 2019 summer season, featuring artists who have worked at the Metropolitan Opera and other renowned companies, will consist of an Evening of Opera Excerpts and Camelot, performed at The Paramount Theater in downtown Charlottesville. Young Artists, Apprentice Singers, and the Young Artist Pianist will be featured in mainstage performances, cover mainstage roles, and perform in outreach performances, master classes, and auditions. 2019 Young Artists will be performing a concert version of the Bizet/Brook La Tragedie de Carmen in French with the Charlottesville Opera Orchestra. This performance will be videotaped for the future use of the YA. Young Artists will also participate the Encore: Charlottesville Opera Favorites concert on the Paramount stage alongside world class Principal Artists. Highlights will include music by Puccini, Mozart, Verdi, and Bernstein. The 2019 Young Artists will sing in a multitude of events and coach with Shelby Rhoades, as well as work with conductors Andy Anderson and Steven Jarvi.
