Butler Opera International Voice Competition brings together The Sarah and Ernest Butler Opera Center at the University of Texas, the Central Texas Philharmonic and Austin Opera to award over $30,000 in prize money. Awards are earned through a May 28 concert with the Central Texas Philharmonic at Bates Recital Hall on the campus of UT Austin. An international panel of judges will select the winners. Every finalist will receive a $1,000 award.
The top cash prizes in 2022 are $10,000 1st prize, $6,000 2nd prize, $4,000 3rd prize, and $2,500 for superlative vocal artistry in honor of soprano Kerry French McKechnie.
The finalists will travel to the University of Texas in Austin, where they will be presented in concert with Central Texas Philharmonic from which the final judges' decision will be announced.
The deadline for singers to apply is February 1, 2022. For the competition, finalists must arrive in Austin on May 23rd. Through May 23-28 finalists will participate in masterclasses, a Q & A session with management and industry professionals hosted by Austin Opera, coachings, and rehearsals. The grand concert will be held on May 28, 2022.
The prizes include international recognition, a professional-grade HD audio and video recording with an orchestra as well as over $15,000 in available in cash awards. We will also provide an mp3 recording.
