The Burbank Philharmonic Orchestra along with the Hennings-Fischer Foundation is pleased to accept applications for the upcoming 20th annual Young Artist Competition. The competition is open to all instrumental (except piano) and opera applicants age 30 and under (as of 12-4-21). Preliminary rounds will take place on Dec. 2nd & 3rd with Finals on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021. The presence of an audience at the finals will depend on current COVID restrictions at the time of the event. Both the preliminary and final rounds will take place at the Semitone Institute of Music in Arcadia. There will be a grand prize winner in the instrumental and opera category and both winners will appear in a regular subscription concert in the 2022-23 season. The winners will also receive an honorarium at the time of performance of $500. For instrumental applicants, a full concerto from the standard repertoire is required (memorization preferred) . For singers, please prepare three contrasting arias from the standard opera repertoire. You must bring your own accompanist to the preliminary and final rounds. If you would like to change repertoire before the competition, you do not have to contact us. Please bring one copy of a piano or solo score to the preliminary and final rounds. Recent past winners and finalists of the Burbank Philharmonic Hennings-Fischer competition have included Sopranos Julie Adams and Angela Meade; Violinists Nigel Armstrong, Aubree Oliverson, Heidi & Alexis Hatch and Qiaorong Ma; and cellist Keith Williams.
